Upgrading to Guinevere 2
Notes
NOTE 1: If you have never installed
Guinevere before, running the main setup will install a one-time
30 day evaluation copy of Guinevere. The program will stop functioning
after 30 days. You can convert this to a full version easily,
using a software key, provided after payment.
NOTE 2: If upgrading from previous versions of Guinevere, you
can just install over your current copy. The old registration
should be preserved. Guinevere 1.0.x and 1.1.x versions are
both cross-compatible with registration keys.
NOTE 3: If for some reason you need to uninstall Guinevere,
you should consult the README that comes with the installation
program. There are full instructions there for restoring mail
flow to the normal pre-Guinevere state.
NOTE 4: The #1 Support Issue - please make sure that your AV
Scanner EXE is in the PATH. By which we mean you should be able
to open a DOS box, and from ANY directory run the EXE just by
typing its name. Here's an example: Choose the MCAFEE integration,
and SCAN/SCANPM are the command line scanners for that product.
Now, you must configure your OS so typing SCAN from any directory
doesn't give a "bad command or file name". Typically
done by editing AUTOEXEC.BAT on Win9x machines (but don't use
long file names!) or system environment variables on WinNT/2000/XP.

Note: Guinevere 1.0.x is no longer supported.
Keys for 1.0.x work fine with 1.1.x. You may upgrade to 1.1.x
from 1.0.x simply by installing over your current Guinevere install.
As of Nov 15, 2002 Guinevere 1.1 is also not supported, and we
ask that you consider upgrading to Guinevere 2.

Upgrading to Guinevere 2
Why Upgrade?
Guinevere 2 features many new innovative features, including comprehensive
spam blocking, UniversalAV, and user exceptions, among many other
features. Furthermore, no new features will be added to Guinevere
1; only bug fixes.
Support for Guinevere 1 was discontinued after November 15, 2002.
- Guinevere 2 and Guinevere 1 can safely co-exist on the same
machine. They must, however, be installed in separate directories.
Unfortunately, there's no clean way to migrate configuration
settings from Guinevere 1 to Guinevere 2. There were just too
many changes and new features to make this feasible.
- Read the manual, as many features have been added or changed.
- Guinevere 2 does generally require more RAM and CPU power
than Guinevere 1. This is ESPECIALLY true if you intend to use
SpamAssassin or Fingerprinting.
